It all started in an industrial design studio in Rotterdam in 2003.  Fred Montijn and Erik Roscam Abbing, two industrial designers cum snow sports enthusiasts, wondered why snowboarding is so very hard to learn. They decided to see if they could make it easier. A great many sketches and prototypes later, a rough first model appeared of what later would be called the Yibb. With the prototypes under their arm they headed to the nearest snowy hill, jumped on and arrived at the bottom with a very big smile on their faces: it worked! Snowboarding without bindings, but with handles was a fact, and learning to ride a snowboard became a completely different experience. Next to their day jobs Fred and Erik started to perfect the product, and work on the Yibb learning and teaching method with renowned snowboard teachers.

In 2006, the company Yibb innovations was founded by Fred, Erik, Harm van Deuren and Ronald Tam. This brought together four creative entrepreneurs with a passion for snow sports, inclusive design and innovation, to embark on a super exciting process of bringing the Yibb to the market.

We have a clear mission: to open up the sport of snowboarding to anyone who wants to try. Our motto: Welcome on board!

The Yibb consists of two handles that can be mounted on any normal snowboard. You just remove the bindings from the snowboard using a Phillips screwdriver (the one that has the cross-shape) and you mount the handles in the same place.

The handles are mounted on high grade weather resistant rubbers so they can hinge in the direction of the board but not perpendicular to it. This gives you the exact freedom of movement and control you need on a snowboard. When not in use you can fold the handles flat.
The handles come in two sizes: large for adults, small for children under 12.

The Yibb comes with a leash for your and your friends’ safety, and with a set of mounting screws.

Mounting:
Using Phillips M6 countersunk screws (included) on any snowboard with a triangular (Burton) or rectangular (other brands) pattern.

The Yibb enables users to snowboard without having their feet attached to the board, which is normally the case. This makes snowboarding much more fun to learn, and it opens up a realm of new opportunities on the snowy slopes.

The Yibb is as simple as it gets: two rotating handles are fixed to a standard snowboard. These handles enable you to stay on the board, keep your balance and steer. So you no longer need the traditional snowboard bindings that fix you to the board. Using the Yibb means you jump off and on when it pleases you. All the fun of snowboarding without getting your bum wet.

Learning to snowboard is not a very pleasant experience. What’s more, for kids under the age of 8, it’s quite impossible. The fact that you have both your feet attached to the same board makes you so unstable that you spend more time in the snow than on it. The Yibb changes all this: it allows you to have a lot of fun, get familiar with the magic of riding that white fluffy stuff, learn what snow does and how your board functions, and play around all you want. And it allows you to do all that in a relaxed and safe way.
